NC State swim and dive coach Braden Holloway has been a key member of USA Swimming’s international competitions recently, including as a women’s assistant at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Now, he’ll be the head coach of the nation’s team at the 2025 World Championships, guiding both the men’s and women’s squads. Holloway previously led Team USA as the head coach of the 2019 Worlds team.

“It’s an incredible honor to be named Head Coach for Team USA at the 2025 World Swimming Championships,” Holloway said. “Representing our country on the world stage is both a privilege and a responsibility I hold with great respect. I’m excited to lead this remarkable group of athletes as we pursue excellence, unity, and gold for the red, white, and blue.”

Holloway’s reputation at NC State, including the ACC Men’s Coach of the Year award 10 times with multiple Olympians, has allowed him to earn opportunities with Team USA. He was pivotal in guiding two-time Olympic medalist Katharine Berkoff’s development at NC State, which culminated in a gold in the 4×100 meter medley and a bronze in the 100-meter backstroke last summer.

Additionally, Holloway helped lead both the men’s and women’s teams to top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships with a program-best 55 All-America honors at the meet. Freshman Leah Shackley was the ACC Freshman of the Year after she was the highest-scoring freshman in the league at the NCAA meet (964.0 points).

The 2025 World Championship team will be set through the US National Championships from June 3-7 in Indianapolis. The World Championships are set for July 26-August 3 in Singapore.

Quote of the day

NC State basketball picked up a commitment from Drive Academy (Finland) 2025 guard Jayme Kontuniemi on Friday. He was impressed with what the Wolfpack had to offer after his official visit two weeks ago.

“The relationship between teammates and the coaching staff, they were really big on making it seem like we were a big family,” Kontuniemi said. “That’s really important to me. Being on a team that everybody is working for one goal — to make the team win and to have the best possible turnout — was the biggest part they were trying to sell to me.”
