NC State Newsstand: Wolfpack baseball ranked in 5 preseason national polls

NC State baseball got back to an NCAA regional appearance last season after it missed the postseason the year prior, and now expectations are higher on the Wolfpack heading into the 2024 campaign.
The red and white appeared in five national college baseball preseason polls:
– D1 Baseball: No. 13
– USA Today: No. 16
– NCBWA: No. 18
– Perfect Game: No. 19
– Baseball America: No. 22
The Pack has 19 newcomers to this season’s roster, which joined the 20 existing players from last season. Of the new faces, NC State brought in the No. 5 freshman class in the country and the No. 12 group of transfer portal additions, according to D1 Baseball..
The portal additions included Western Carolina transfer Brandon Butterworth, Sane Fe transfer Josh Hogue, Wichita State power hitter Garrett Pennington and East Carolina transfer Alec Makarewicz, which are all expected to make an impact in the infield for the Pack this spring.
NC State also added key pitching through the portal, including Tennessee’s Hollis Fanning and Division III standout Shane Van Dam, who struck out 43 batters in 29.1 innings at SUNY Cortland last spring.
