NC State RHP Chance Mako enters transfer portal

NC State freshman right-handed pitcher Chance Mako has entered the transfer portal, TheWolfpacker.com and On3 have learned.
Mako is the fourth NC State player to enter the transfer portal, joining fellow pitchers Garrett Payne and Christopher Zupito, as well as freshman infielder Robert Nedry,
Mako appeared in two games this season. He logged 1.1 innings, allowing four runs on two hits with two walks and a strikeout.
The Salisbury, N.C., native tossed one scoreless e in the Wolfpack’s 17-2 win over Queens on Feb. 28 in his collegiate debut. He then lasted 0.1 innings against UNCG on March 12, where he gave up four runs on two hits.
Mako did not appear in another game after that outing this season as he fell down the bullpen’s depth chart.
The 6-foot-7 arm is currently spending the summer with the Cape Cod League’s Harwich Mariners. Mako has appeared in one game, tossing an inning with three walks pitching in the nation’s top summer league.

Mako, the No. 155 prospect in ESPN’s 2023 MLB Draft rankings, elected to attend NC State over signing with a professional team last summer. He met with all 30 MLB teams after going through the MLB Draft combine during the process out of high school, but decided to attend college instead.
Mako was also ranked No. 162 overall by MLB.com’s draft prospect list and No. 136 by Prospects Live.
The righty has a lot of upside with his fastball sitting in the low 90s and it is able to touch 96. Mako was continuing to develop a slider and changeup while at NC State.
NC State baseball is still in season, set to play Florida in a College World Series elimination game Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on ESPN. The Wolfpack lost game one to Kentucky in 10 innings.
