NC State slips in national polls after winless week vs. UNCW, at Miami

Just a week after NC State surged through the rankings after a sweep over then-No. 2 Clemson, the Wolfpack returned to Earth without a win in its past three outings.
The Pack dropped a midweek clash with UNCW in a 6-4 result before Miami edged NC State on back-to-back nights on Friday and Saturday in 6-4 and 10-4 final scores. The only positive for the Wolfpack was Sunday’s series finale was rained out in the third inning, down 2-0 and on the ropes of its first winless three-game weekend of the year.
But since NC State left Miami with just two losses instead of three, the Wolfpack is tied with Florida State for first place in the ACC standings, despite scoring just five total runs against the Hurricanes.
Although the Pack didn’t pick up a win in the past week, it remained inside D1Baseball’s and Baseball America‘s top-25 rankings for the second straight poll. NC State checked in at No. 16 and No. 21, respectively, in the two national rankings. The Pack was ranked 13th by D1 and 18th by Baseball America a week ago as it slid down both polls.

Now, as the Wolfpack flew back from South Florida, it has a monumental week ahead. NC State (30-15, 15-8 ACC) will make the return trip to UNCW on Tuesday evening, looking to avenge its previous midweek loss, before visiting North Carolina (35-10, 15-9) for a pivotal three-game series.
The Tar Heels sit in a tie for third and are 0.5 games back from the Wolfpack going into the showdown at Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill. Georgia Tech (33-14, 15-9) is keeping pace with UNC, while Miami (29-18, 14-9) is 0.5 games behind that duo to round out the league’s top five.
