NC State men’s basketball season is right around the corner. Will Wade and his staff have hit the practice court with the Wolfpack’s new-look roster, looking to prepare to make a splash during the 2025-26 campaign in Raleigh.

Before the program gets too deep into preseason camp, TheWolfpacker.com caught up with Rivals Senior National Recruiting Analyst Jamie Shaw, who recently observed an NC State practice inside the Dail Basketball Center, for a special edition of The Wolfpacker Show.

In this episode:

– Shaw shared his initial thoughts on NC State’s roster building, and what Wade and his staff prioritized to have an edge over opposing teams on a nightly basis. He also touched on the style of play that the Wolfpack wants to utilize, and how it is coming along in preseason practice to this point.

– After his overarching view of the Wolfpack, Shaw broke down a pair of preseason standouts that he saw in the practice he watched. One of his picks was newly-acquired international forward Musa Sagnia, who just arrived in Raleigh in the past few weeks. He explained why Sagnia and another player impressed during his viewing period.

– A critical part of the Wolfpack’s roster-building process was Texas Tech transfer forward Darrion Williams, a First Team All-Big 12 selection after he averaged 15.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists last season. Shaw spoke about why Williams is a crucial player for NC State this season, and how he has added to his game to become an even bigger mismatch for other teams to defend each night.

– After laying the groundwork for the program, Shaw picked his breakout player to keep an eye on as the season moves on. It isn’t one of the obvious choices, but Rivals’ top basketball evaluator explained his selection and why that player will be an integral part of what NC State is looking to do this season.

– Before ending the show, Shaw gave his scouting report on Paso Robles (Calif.) SoCal Academy four-star center Trevon Carter-Givens, the Wolfpack’s first commitment of the 2026 cycle. He also shared his thoughts on a few other targets NC State is in the mix for, including Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy four-star small forward Cole Cloer.
