The Wolfpacker Show: Previewing NC State at Wake Forest

NC State is on the road this week. The Wolfpack is set to take on Wake Forest on Thursday night (7:30 p.m., ESPN) at Allegacy Stadium in Winston-Salem.

Both teams are 2-0 going into the midweek ACC opener for the two programs, both of which are looking to make a statement on national television. This week’s episode of The Wolfpacker show previews the rivalry matchup between the Demon Deacons and the Pack.

In this episode:

– Deacons Illustrated’s Conor O’Neill, who covers the program for the On3 Network, joins the show to help preview Wake Forest. Initially, he shared his first impressions of the Jake Dickert era after the coach arrived in Winston-Salem after serving as Washington State’s head coach for the past three years.

– The conversation shifted to what the Wake Forest offense can do well under the new offensive scheme after the Dave Clawson slow mesh ended with the new staff in place. The one known commodity, however, is star running back Demond Claiborne. He is the main engine of the Demon Deacons’ offense, and will be the focal point on Thursday night.

– While Claiborne is the star of the show, Wake Forest has a veteran quarterback in Robby Ashford. O’Neill discussed how Ashford, who has been at two previous programs, beat out Charlotte transfer Deshawn Purdie for the starting job. He also added the key trait that Ashford brings to the table that the Demon Deacons seemed to be excited about.

– O’Neill also talked about Wake Forest’s defense and what it looks like this season. There are a lot of familiar faces, while the Demon Deacons added a few key pieces along the defensive line this past offseason too.

– Rounding out O’Neill’s segment, he talked about what Wake Forest needs to do well in order to beat NC State. 

– After the guest appearance, Noah gave his score prediction for the ACC opener. NC State is currently favored by a touchdown, according to BetMGM. Will the Wolfpack cover that spread?
