When NC State hired longtime talent evaluator Andrew Slater as its general manager in March, those around college basketball believed it was a big-time hire. His resume is among the best in the sport, and it didn’t take long for him to hit the road for the first time for the Wolfpack.  Slater, who worked for the Oklahoma City Thunder from 2018 up until this year as a consultant and eventual full-time scout, made a pair of stops in New York to see some of the top recruits in the 2026 cycle. It didn’t matter that NC State was working to put the finishing touches on its first roster, Slater hit the ground running to begin forming bonds at the high school level at the end of the in-school visit period.
