It’s officially May, which means postseason baseball is right around the corner. No. 13 NC State has surged clear into the NCAA Tournament hosting picture after a standout April that featured a 12-3 record with four ACC series wins in the process.

The Wolfpack enters the final month of the regular season as the first-place team in the ACC standings, seeking its first regular season title since 1986. Here’s a look at NC State’s NCAA Tournament projections with three weeks to play before the ACC Tournament in Durham.

Where does NC State project?

Baseball America slotted the Wolfpack as the No. 16 seed hosting Oklahoma, Northeastern and Yale in a Raleigh Regional. That would have the Pack line up against the winner of the Austin Regional headlined by No. 1 Texas, who would host Dallas Baptist, UTRGV and Bryant.

D1Baseball, meanwhile, projected NC State as the No. 13 national seed to host the opening weekend in Raleigh. The Pack would have Ole Miss, UConn and High Point at Doak Field. NC State would be slotted against the winner of the Fayetteville Regional headlined by No. 4 Arkansas, who would be joined by Kansas, Iowa and SE Missouri State.

Rounding out the projections is On3’s Jonathan Wagner, who put the Wolfpack as the No. 14 overall seed. Alabama, Troy and Columbia were the three other teams he had set to make the trip to Doak Field. The winner of that regional would square off with the winner of the Baton Rouge Regional, with No. 3 LSU, Virginia Tech, Southeastern Louisiana and Missouri State.

NCAA Tournament metrics

NC State’s NCAA Tournament resume looks a lot better than it did after it dropped five straight games in February. The Wolfpack has surged from 234th in the RPI to No. 28, which has allowed the team to enter the conversation for hosting a regional this June.

The Pack’s recent sweep over then-No. 2 Clemson has helped boost that, while it has also paid dividends for the program’s Quadrant 1 record. NC State is 6-5 against Q1 teams, while it’s 9-2 in Q2, 2-4 in Q3 (including Tuesday’s UNCW loss) and 13-2 in Q4.

NC State has six Quad 1 opportunities left to boost its resume during the regular season. The Pack visits RPI No. 36 Miami this weekend before traveling to RPI No. 9 North Carolina next weekend.
