Vince Robinson entered his redshirt freshman year mostly unnoticed on the national radar. He hadn’t won a state championship during his prep career at Chicago (Ill.) Homewood Flosmoor as a two-time runner up. But when once his debut collegiate season at NC State was underway, Robinson turned heads around the country.

The 125-pound star posted a 24-3 mark, including a 7-2 record against ranked opponents, en route to the 2025 national championship this past season. Now, Robinson is among the top wrestlers in the NCAA as he looks to defend his crown after becoming the first freshman to win the crown at the weight since 2018.

“I’ve got a lot of will to win,” Robinson said shortly after winning the title. “Before I step on the mat, know nobody wants this more than me. Nobody wants it more than me. It’s like somebody’s trying to take everything I want.”

Now, as Robinson looks to repeat as the champion, he’s expected to have another strong showing. He checked into FloWrestling’s opening rankings of the 2025-26 season at No. 19 in the nation pound-for-pound, while he was also the top-ranked wrestler in the 125-pound weight class.

In addition to Robinson, the Wolfpack had five other wrestlers ranked in their weight class going into the new campaign.

NC State star redshirt senior Isaac Trumble, the 2023 U23 97kg World Champion, is ranked second at heavyweight going into his second season in the division. Trumble debuted at heavyweight last season, which he went 22-7 in with 10 ranked wins in the process. He was able to wrestle his way through the loser’s bracket to earn All-American honors with ACL, MCL and meniscus injuries.

Another wrestler that moved up a weight last season, redshirt junior Matty Singleton enters the new campaign ranked fifth at 174. Singleton went 22-9 a year ago with four ranked victories to earn All-America status for the first time in his collegiate career.

Redshirt senior Ryan Jack, who redshirted last season, checked in at No. 9 at 141. The 2024 All-American with a seventh-place finish after he won the ACC title with an upset of top-seeded Cole Matthews from Pittsburgh.

Like Jack, redshirt junior Jackson Arrington spent the season out of the routine lineup last season. The two-time NCAA qualifier enters the 2025-26 season as the No. 11-ranked wrestler in the 157-pound weight class, which he’s expected to move up to after he spent his first two years at 149.

Redshirt sophomore Koy Buesgens, meanwhile, entered the rankings at No. 15 after he moved up to 149 last year and was able to impress. He was a first-time NCAA qualifier after posting a 17-13 mark with three ranked wins. Buesgens wrestled his way deep into the postseason as he earned a third-place finish at the ACC Championship after he knocked off Stanford All-American Jaden Abas in the process.

It’s early, about three months away from the start of the 2025-26 season, but NC State expects to have another positive showing at the NCAA Championships in Cleveland. Currently, FloWrestling projects the Wolfpack to finish seventh as a team in the pinnacle event of collegiate wrestling.
