Nebraska outside hitter Lindsay Krause is the Big Ten Player of the Week after two huge performances in the Huskers’ victories against Michigan State and Michigan.

The junior averaged 3.43 kills per set and hit .458 in her last two matches. After Nebraska had been struggling at the service line, Krause sparked them with four service aces. She led the Huskers in service aces over the weekend.

Recently, Krause has been subbing out of the match for defensive specialist Laney Choboy to serve. Husker Head Coach John Cook decided to switch it up due to him changing Choboy’s serve. Krause definitely took advantage.

Against Michigan State, Krause had nine kills with one error and a .381 hitting percentage. On the next night vs. Michigan, the 6-foot-4 junior had a season-high 15 kills on 27 swings. She hit a match-high .519, a season-high for the outside hitter.

Overall, Krause is averaging 2.34 kills per set and is hitting .298 this season.

Krause and junior Ally Batenhorst have been battling for the second outside hitter position behind Harper Murray. Cook has been waiting for one to step up and take the job. Over the last few matches, he has been quick to pull either hitter.

Krause started against Michigan State but was replaced toward the end of the first set. Batenhorst played in most of the second before Cook gave Krause another shot.

That switch sparked Krause, an Omaha Skutt Catholic product. She had two huge sets to record nine kills, four digs and two aces.

Her performance earned her some big recognition. Now it’s up to her to keep it up and claim the outside hitter position just as Cook has desperately hoped for.

Krause is the fourth Husker to earn a Big Ten weekly honor. She adds her name next to Murray, setter Bergen Reilly and opposite hitter Merritt Beason.
