Three Husker volleyball players earn a Big Ten Weekly Award

After two road wins, No. 2 Nebraska volleyball had three Huskers earn a Big Ten Weekly Award.

Junior opposite hitter Merritt Beason, freshman outside hitter Harper Murray and freshman setter Bergen Reilly earned awards this week and have won the awards in previous weeks as well.

This weekend, the Huskers beat No. 17 Purdue in five competitive sets in West Lafayette. The next day, Nebraska lost the first set to Indiana but won the next three to win the match.

Beason earned her second Big TenPlayer of the Week award. She averaged 4.56 kills per set and 2.33 digs per set over the last two matches. She also averaged a .384 hitting percentage. The Florida transfer had 19 kills, hit .368 and added nine digs and five blocks. The junior had a career-high 22 kills vs. Indiana while hitting .400.. She also had a season-high 12 digs.

So far this season, Beason leads Nebraska with 4.36 points per set and 3.67 kills per set. She is hitting .281 overall.

Murray averaged 4.22 kills per set and had 1.67 digs per set. The freshman hit .278 overall with a .368 hitting percentage against Indiana. Murray also had a career-high 21 kills and had 10 digs and two blocks against Purdue. On Saturday, she had 17 kills and five digs in Nebraska’s win over Indiana.

The freshman outside hitter has won three of the six Big Ten Freshman of the Week awards. Her setter, Bergen Reilly, won the award last week.

Reilly earned her second straight Big Ten Setter of the Week award. This week, she split the award to Penn State setter Mac Podraza. Podraza averaged 11.29 assists per set in road wins over Illinois and No. 13 Minnesota.

Three takes from No. 2 Nebraska volleyball’s battle to beat Indiana in four sets

Reilly was a key part of both wins this weekend. She averaged 11.89 assists per set and 1.89 digs per set. Against Purdue, she had a career-high 54 assists per set with 12 digs and five kills.

The 6-foot-1 freshman had 53 assists against Indiana. She had one less assist vs. Indiana in four sets than in the five-set Purdue match.

Nebraska hit .338 on Saturday in Bloomington and had a .311 hitting percentage against Purdue, who has a solid defense.

Wisconsin middle blocker Carter Booth is the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week. She had 13 blocks over No. 22 Ohio State and Michigan.

The Huskers are back on the road again this weekend. They take on Michigan State on Oct. 6 at 6:00 p.m. on B1G+ and Michigan on Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
