Michael “Mikey” Henn has had quite the college basketball journey, and he may opt to continue it by selecting a fifth college program for which to play. The transfer forward from the University of Denver, who entered the transfer portal in April, named his three finalists on Friday: Illinois, Notre Dame and Penn State.

The 6-8, 225-pound Bellevue (Wash.) native is also eligible to enter the NBA Draft. That deadline is June 1.

Last season at Denver, Henn appeared in all 32 games for the Pioneers and started in 27. He averaged 25.2 minutes, 8.8 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. Outside of the guards, Henn led the team in points per game. He shot 46.8 percent from the field as well as 38 percent from three-point range. The Washington native scored in double figures 16 times last year as Denver finished with an 11-21 record.

Prior to Denver, Henn played for three additional schools after graduating from high school in 2016. He spent his freshman season at UC Davis, where he helped the team to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in school history. Henn then transferred to Cal Baptist, where after sitting out for a year due to the former transfer rule the forward averaged 6.4 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. He missed the 2019-20 season due to injury.

In 2020, Henn transferred once again to Portland where he started 20 of 21 games and averaged 7.8 points each contest.

Henn was approved to play a fifth year of college basketball this spring and announced he would examine his options — both transfer portal and professional — on Twitter on April 6.

Notre Dame had a lot of success with a one-year graduate transfer forward last season in Paul Atkinson Jr. He came over from Yale for a season and averaged 12.5 points and 6.9 rebounds per game in 2021.

A veteran transfer in Henn would be a big addition for head coach Mike Brey regardless, but especially so if current Notre Dame forward Nate Laszewski ultimately leaves for the NBA. He remains undecided, but that June 1 deadline is quickly approaching. The 6-10 Florida native averaged 9.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game in 2021. He shot 45.6 percent from three-point range.

Notre Dame already made one addition in April, landing former Niagara guard Marcus Hammond as a graduate transfer. He, too, has one season of eligibility left.
