The Notre Dame women’s basketball program continues to be a pipeline to the WNBA, a fact which was on full display in Sunday’s WNBA All-Star Game. Four women who previously donned the blue and gold partook in the Chicago contest last weekend: Skylar Diggins-Smith (Phoenix Mercury), Jewell Loyd (Seattle Storm), Arike Ogunbowale (Dallas Wings) and Jackie Young (Las Vegas Aces). No other school had more players on the court.

The four women were a part of Team Stewart, which was named after Storm forward and former UConn star Breanna Stewart. Young was the only starter from Notre Dame and scored two points, while Loyd and Ogunbowale came off the bench and posted 21 and 11 points, respectively.

Team Stewart ultimately fell to Team Wilson — named for Aces forward A’ja Wilson — by a score of 134-112.

Quote of the weekend

“Notre Dame still has a chance at a blockbuster television deal on its own when its NBC deal expires in 2025, as the Irish are attractive to streaming services because they offer a boutique product without all the bulbous inventory that comes with conference packages. In other words, a nimble streaming service could park a truck in South Bend for six home games instead of being saddled with a lot of Oregon State vs. Utah basketball games on a Tuesday night. (Also, NBC/Peacock could get a piece of the Big Ten and package that with Notre Dame for a day of strong football.)”
