Newsstand: Notre Dame hockey adds two players from transfer portal

Notre Dame is in the process of restructuring its hockey roster. The Fighting Irish recently added two players from the transfer portal.

Defenseman Ryan Siedem comes to South Bend from Harvard, and Patrick Moynihan arrives from Providence College. Both players expressed enthusiasm to play for head coach Jeff Jackson and to mesh with the returning skaters.

“I am very excited to play for such a historic program with so many amazing players,” Siedem said in a statement.

“I am humbled and excited for the opportunity to wear the Notre Dame jersey,” Moynihan added in a statement of his own. “It is a dream come true to be playing at Notre Dame.”

Siedem played in 99 games for Harvard. He had 7 goals and 51 assists. He helped the Crimson earn a sot in the NCAA Tournament this past season with 1 goal and 16 assists on the way to a 24-8-2 record. Siedem, 6-2 and 192 pounds, also has 111 games of experience in the USHL.

Moynihan played in 123 games for Providence. He had 37 goals and 34 assists. In two seasons with thge United States National Team Development Program, Moynihan played in 200 games and had 125 points on 56 goals and 69 assists. He’s 5-11 and 183 pounds.

The Irish missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015 last season. They ended a frustrating season marred by injuries with a 16-16-5 record.
