Notre Dame revealed its alternate jerseys for the season opener vs. Navy in Dublin, Ireland. The program’s official social media account shared photos of the first public look of the threads.

Below is the first look at the uniform.

Notre Dame will be the home team on Aug. 26 at Aviva Stadium for the first time in three trips to Ireland. The uniform definitely indicates as much. It is not too far of a departure from the Fighting Irish’s usual blue jersey tops, gold pants and, of course, gold helmets that they wear at home in South Bend.

There are a few unique, Gaelic features like a special Celtic band in line with the interlocking “ND” logo on the shoulders. There is also a sliver of the Irish flag on the back of the neck with a shamrock below that containing the year 2023.

Navy, who Notre Dame beat 50-10 the last time these two programs played at Aviva Stadium in 2012, will also don an alternate uniform for the matchup. Notre Dame and Navy are both supplied with their apparel by Under Armour.

Sunday’s announcement comes less than a week after the program revealed what the green uniform that will be worn vs. Ohio State on Sept. 23 looks like. Notre Dame and Under Armour went all green with that one; green jersey tops, green pants and even green cleats.

The Irish jersey unveilings coincide with recent news of Notre Dame extending its contract with Under Armour for another 10 years. The two parties have had a partnership since 2014. The agreement was set to expire at the end of the year, but the Irish administration decided to keep it going. According to Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports, Notre Dame will receive more than $10 million in cash and gear from UA.

The Notre Dame vs. Navy rivalry dates back to 1927. The Fighting Irish and Midshipmen have faced each other every year since then except for 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Including vacated wins by the NCAA, the Irish own an all-time record of 81-13-1 in the series. The Irish have won the last five meetings, including a 35-32 victory last November in Baltimore. Notre Dame led 35-13 at halftime and narrowly withstood a 19-point second-half charge from the Mids.

Irish quarterback Sam Hartman will make his first start in an ND uniform on Aug. 26. It will come in an Irish uniform worn for the first time.
