Notre Dame is hanging in the top 10 of the Associated Press Poll after a 1-1 week with a win and a loss to ranked opponents. The Fighting Irish fell from No. 7 to No. 9 in the Week 13 edition of the rankings after suffering a loss to then-No. 20 NC State in Raleigh, N.C., on Sunday. The Wolfpack vaulted to No. 15.

Notre Dame and NC State are two of six ACC teams appearing in the poll. The others are No. 11 North Carolina, No. 13 Virginia Tech, No. 16 Duke and No. 23 Florida State. Notre Dame and Duke are tied atop the conference standings with an ACC record of 8-2. There are six other teams within two games or less of that mark.

With the Blue Devils losing Sunday to the same Florida State team Notre Dame just beat by 23 points last week, the Irish had a chance to claim sole possession of first place in the conference with a win at NC State. Head coach Niele Ivey‘s team jumped out to a five-point lead at the end of the first quarter but found itself down by 16 midway through the third. The Irish stormed back to get within two points in the fourth, but in the end the deficit was insurmountable.

The Irish remain on the road this week at Boston College (14-10, 4-7) on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET. The Eagles beat the Irish 73-71 in Boston last winter before the Irish avenged the defeat with a 74-61 home victory 10 days later. With eight games remaining in the regular season, every matchup is a big one for the Irish in search of their first conference title since 2018-19.
