Notre Dame fans waiting on 3:30 p.m. ET to roll around Saturday afternoon will have an appetizer of sorts. Before the No. 19 Fighting Irish (7-3) host Wake Forest (4-6) on Senior Day at Notre Dame Stadium, the Irish women’s basketball team tips off against Illinois at 1 p.m. ET in the second annual Citi Shamrock Classic.

Here’s how you can tune into head coach Niele Ivey and the Irish going against the Illini first.

Matchup notables

• Notre Dame opened the season with a 100-71 loss to now-No. 1 South Carolina in Paris, France. The Irish have since bounced back with a 104-57 victory over the New Jersey Institute of Technology and a 110-52 home-opening win over Northwestern.

• The triumph over the Wildcats came at a cost. Junior guard Sonia Citron was bumped into by a teammate late in the third quarter. Her knee buckled a bit, and she needed help getting to the locker room. She did not return and still finished as the game’s leading scorer with 21 points. Her status going forward remains uncertain and should be cleared up by Ivey in the postgame press conference if Citron does not play Saturday.

• It’s been the Hannah Hidalgo show for Notre Dame so far this season, and the Irish are going to need that to continue if Citron is shelved for some time. Playing in place of junior point guard Olivia Miles, who is rightfully taking her time coming back from offseason knee surgery, Hidalgo is averaging 26.0 points, 7.0 steals, 5.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game.

• Illinois beat Morehead State 81-61 in the season opener. The Illini then lost 71-67 to Marquette and beat 103-33 to get to 2-1. Illinois is led by former NC State guard Genesis Bryant at 16.3 points per game. Shauna Green is in her second season as head coach and has a 24-11 overall record. She went 127-50 at Dayton from 2016-22.

• Notre Dame and Illinois have not played each other since 1999. The Illini won that game, 77-67, and hold the all-time series advantage, 4-1.
