Notre Dame women’s basketball vs. Purdue game info

Matchup notables

• Notre Dame is playing for the first time since Dec. 6 when the Irish beat Lafayette, 96-42. Purdue lost to Minnesota, 60-58, exactly one week ago.

• This is the 28th all-time meeting between the Irish and Boilermakers. Purdue has a 14-13 edge in the series, but Notre Dame has won eight in a row and can tie things up at 14 wins apiece.

• The Irish are led by freshman point guard Hannah Hidalgo, the only player in the country to average at least 20 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals so far this season. She’s currently sitting at 23.6 points, 6.0 steals, 5.5 assists and 5.4 rebounds per game.

• Hidalgo has needed to be every bit the potential All-American she’s been because the Irish have been so severely hampered by injuries. Junior guards Olivia Miles and Sonia Citron, sophomore guard/forward Cass Prosper and freshman guard Emma Risch will not play Sunday. They’ve all missed multiple games this season, and Miles has yet to even make her junior year debut.

• Purdue has four players averaging at least 10 points per game led by senior guard Abbey Ellis at 14.3.

• Notre Dame head coach Niele Ivey on Purdue: “Their numbers are pretty low too, so their starter splay 30-plus minutes, kind of in the same situation. They’re disciplined. They play hard. Katie Geralds is doing a great job rebuilding the program. They got some really great shooters. They’re very physical. We have to be prepared. They run really good action, so we’ll have to match their intensity because I feel like they play really, really hard.”
