Hello, Atlantic Coast Conference play. No. 13 Notre Dame (9-1) begins the conference portion of the 2023-24 schedule with a New Year’s Eve trip to Central New York. The Fighting Irish face Syracuse (10-1) at noon on Sunday.

• Notre Dame hasn’t played since beating Western Michigan 84-47 at home in South Bend on Dec. 21. It’s been the same exact number of days since Syracuse was on the floor; the Orange beat St. Francis, 85-43, 10 days ago.

• Syracuse is led by former Buffalo star Dyaisha Fair who’s averaging 19.0 points per game in her second season with the Orange. That’s her lowest points per game total in five collegiate seasons. She set a career-high mark of 24.1 in 2020-21.

• Syracuse also has three other players averaging at least 10 points per game. The Orange’s 81.1 points per game ranks 26th in the country. For reference, Notre Dame slots in at No. 9 with 89.7 points per game.

• Freshman guard Hannah Hidalgo leads Notre Dame with her 23.8 points per game. She’s also averaging 6.4 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 6.0 steals. She recorded her first triple-double in the Irish’s last game.

• Syracuse received just one Associated Press Top 25 vote despite a 10-1 start. The Orange’s only loss of the year came to then-No. 20 Maryland, 83-81, on the road on Nov. 19. They’ve since beaten Iowa State and Alabama, marking their two best wins of the year to date.

• Notre Dame owns a staggering 39-4 all-time record in its series with Syracuse. The Irish prevailed by a score of 73-64 on Feb. 12, 2023, in South Bend the last time the two programs played. Syracuse last beat Notre Dame, 81-69, on Jan. 31, 2021.
