Notre Dame women’s basketball is on a roll to start the 2022-23 season. The No. 7 Fighting Irish (6-0) won both of their matchups in The Bahamas in the Goombay Splash this past weekend.

Head coach Niele Ivey’s team took care of American 90-65 on Thanksgiving. The Irish trailed Arizona State at halftime Saturday but exploded in the second half for a 85-65 victory.

Sophomore point guard Olivia Miles led the way in the first victory with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Texas graduate transfer Lauren Ebo came off the bench to score 20 points in 24 minutes versus the Sun Devils.

The Irish have a pair of massive games upcoming at Purcell Pavilion. They host No. 20 Maryland (6-2) this Thursday at 6:30 p.m. ET as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Then they welcome No. 3 UConn (4-0) at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4.

Ivey’s group will be put to the test in a way they haven’t been yet early this season.

Quote of the weekend

“Notre Dame’s history is a physical, pound it type of team. Coach Riley was like, ‘We’re that team. We have to embrace it as well. We have to go out there and show the world who we actually are.’ We’re not a team that is about all the flash, glitz and glamor. We’ll get in the trenches and actually work.”
