COLUMBUS — Ohio State has a chance of landing a top-25 player and the best-rated player in its own backyard.

In-state four-star Pickerington Central power forward Devin Royal released his final nine schools he is considering, and Ohio State made the cut.

Devin Royal, the No. 25 player nationally and the No. 1 player in Ohio according to On3, also listed Alabama, Clemson, Marquette, Michigan, Miami, Michigan State, Ole Miss and Penn State on his trimmed list.

At 6-foot-6, 205-pounds, Devin Royal boasts superb skills from beyond-the-arc specifically in catch-and-shoot scenarios. Royal’s court vision is also impressive as he heads into his senior season.

His official scouting report from On3: “Devin Royal has long arms and a strong frame. The 6-foot-6 forward is an advanced scorer with a great feel. He has touch and range off the catch from three. Royal moves well off the ball, finds the open space in the defense, has great balance, and is squared up at the basket. The foot speed may be a question and would like to see him rebound at a higher rate. He is a tweener forward, but his offensive feel would allow him to play either way. He is a bonafide top 100 talent.”

Devin Royal has taken four official visits throughout his recruitment and three of the schools are on his list: Michigan State, Penn State and Marquette. Royal’s other official visit was to Iowa State.

While the lack of an official visit to Ohio State on the surface could appear to be a cause of concern, Devin Royal still has one more official visit to take.

He currently has no set commitment date, but the Buckeyes will ramp up their efforts to make sure that they’re the one of nine to win Devin Royal’s recruitment battle.
