Emeka Egbuka on Buckeyes relationships, reputation and recruitment

There are not many college coaches recruiting at a higher level right now than Buckeyes wide receivers coach Brian Hartline. So when he finds — and focuses on — a player that he believes is a gamechanger, it’s wise to pay close attention to that player’s recruitment.
That’s Emeka Egbuka. A 5-star prospect in the Class of 2021 from Steilacoom (Wash.) — currently ranked as the country’s top-ranked athlete and No. 13 overall player — the 6-foot-1, 190-pound Pacific Northwest standout is one of the Buckeyes top overall targets in his class and a top priority at receiver for Hartline and Ohio State.

Washington is a state full of talent in the soon-to-be junior class, and the state’s third-ranked prospect spent a weekend in Columbus in March and left that trip giving Ohio State high marks.
“I don’t know what I expected,†Egbuka said. “I just love the energy. It’s just different from other places I have been. It’s just something you can’t put into words. Just a vibe you get when you’re surrounded by the people and the community.”
Egbuka — pronounced Eh-buka because the G is silent — has an vocal Gee recruiting him as well as Brian Hartline and Ryan Day: Buckeyes commitment Gee Scott lives just about an hour away and is hoping that connection can help bring the young receiver to Columbus with him.
