Urban Meyer - Joe Maiorana USA TODAY

Good morning, Ohio State fans, and welcome to the Scarlet Sunrise! Football will always be our focus, but every day we’ll cover news, notes and analysis from across Buckeyes sports. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Ohio State football, recruiting, basketball and more.

The clock is ticking

The group appointed to direct the investigation of Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer announced late Sunday night that it expects the process to conclude within two weeks.

“Ohio State is committed to a thorough and complete investigation,” committee chair Jo Ann Davidson said. “We look forward to sharing the results of this investigation and any action the university may take.”

The investigative team will be led by former Chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Mary Jo White, who does not appear to have any ties to Ohio State. White is a senior chair with the national law firm Debevoise & Plimpton and is a former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. She had been a part of a number of NFL investigations, including ones involving former Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson, Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott and the New Orleans Saints “bountygate” scandal.

Urban Meyer fights for his job

For anyone hibernating since Friday afternoon, things really kicked off when Meyer released a statement on his Twitter account. He said that he did know about the 2015 incident involving Zach Smith but also claimed he followed proper reporting protocols in terms of telling his superiors.

Assessing Ryan Day’s head coach fit

If Meyer has ultimately coached his last game at Ohio State, the question remains: Assuming Ryan Day fares reasonably well in 2018, would he be a long-term fit for the Buckeyes? As a part of our 3 for 3 series, Lettermen Row recruiting czar Birm gave his take about Day’s abilities to recruit and succeed long-term in Columbus. He’s a portion of what Birm had to say:

Anyone who knows me and has talked to me about him knows  that I’m a huge fan of Ryan Day and think that he’s a great choice for the Buckeyes in the immediate and long-term future. I think he’s a guy that will become a top-tier head coach someday and if Ohio State is where that begins for him, then more power to him. A lack of head coaching experience certainly hasn’t hurt Lincoln Riley.

Ohio State training camp predictions

Ohio State has begun fall camp, so Lettermen Row senior writer Austin Ward looked into his crystal ball and gave five predictions for what might happen over the next month. He offered predictions on issues both on and off the field as well as position battles at cornerback and center and a complicated situation at middle linebacker. Be sure to check it out!
