Buckeyes award players of game from win over Tulsa

Ohio State pulled away from Tulsa late for a 21-point win. It has a pair of young players to thank for the margin of victory over the Golden Hurricane.

Freshman running back TreVeyon Henderson broke the single-game freshman rushing record at Ohio State on Saturday, with 277 yards on 24 carries. For that, he earned Offensive Player of the Game from the Buckeyes.

Cameron Martinez, a second-year defensive back, had an interception returned for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter. The 61-yard return earned him Defensive Player of the Game honors from the Buckeyes program.

And Ohio State made sure to name Cade Kachershi and Xavier Johnson as special teams players of the game for their contributions.

The Buckeyes got a big win to get back on the right track with their season. And those four players did their part to help in the win.

Ohio State drops spot in latest AP Poll

A win is a win, but Ohio State wasn’t impressive in the latest victory over Tulsa. The Buckeyes gave up more than 500 yards and struggled on offense at times, failing to bury a team it should have blown out.

For that, Ohio State dropped a spot down to No. 10 in the latest AP Poll, a second-straight week the Buckeyes have slipped in the poll.

They are now the third-best team in the Big Ten, according to the rankings. Iowa is No. 5 and Penn State is directly behind the Hawkeyes at No. 6.

Wisconsin (18), Michigan (19) and Michigan State (20) round out the Big Ten in the poll.

And after another unconvincing performance, the Buckeyes slipped in the poll but are still living in the top 10.
