Entering Sunday No. 23 Ole Miss had not been swept in a Southeastern Conference series this season. The trend needed to continue to avoid having a completely deflated feeling leaving Norman.

The Rebels responded with a 7-3 win over No. 21 Oklahoma to salvage a game in the series.

After two games where the offense managed only three runs, all on Saturday, the bats finally arrived and the Rebels found some consistency with another double-digit hit day.

Through the first five innings Ole Miss (33-15, 13-11 SEC) scored at least a run in all but the opening frame with a pair in the third and fifth and a run in the second and fourth innings, respectively.

“Through the first two games we just gave a lot of at-bats away,” outfielder Isaac Humphrey said. “Kind of laid down and let them do what they wanted to. That was the big thing coming into today was, ‘Hey, how can we be tougher at the plate? How can we grind out at-bats?’ …I thought the offense was great today.”

Humphrey went 2-for-5 on Sunday with a triple and a run batted in.

Continuing his hot streak catcher Austin Fawley hit is 15th home run of the season with a solo shot in the second inning to open up the scoring for Ole Miss.

On the mound Mason Nichols did not have his best stuff but luckily the Rebels still had its best arm in the bullpen ready to go.

Mason Morris entered the game with bases loaded and two outs in the second inning and commenced to have one of his longer outings of the season.

The Tupelo native worked 3.2 innings giving up a run off three hits while walking one and striking out four other Sooner batters. He was stretched out to 74 pitches on Sunday with 44 of them strikes.

“It’s one of those things where one of your best bullets is still in your gun on Sunday,” Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco said. “We knew that we’d have a short leash with Nichols and not because of any expectation, good or bad. Just you want to make sure you fire that bullet, maybe our best bullet, in time that it matters. They seemed to be on Nichols early.”

Making his second appearance of the weekend Will McCausland worked 2.2 innings of relief, allowing a run off a hit but did not issue a walk. Connor Spencer worked the ninth inning to close things out.

Now Ole Miss heads back home with finals week starting and no midweek game on the schedule. The next game will be in Starkville on Friday to open up another all-important SEC series against Mississippi State (29-19, 10-14).

The Bulldogs are 4-0 since firing head coach Chris Lemonis earlier this week and swept Kentucky by a score of 26-10 over the weekend.
