Austin Simmons injury update: Ole Miss QB reportedly game-time decision vs. Arkansas

Ole Miss quarterback Austin Simmons will reportedly be a game-time decision vs. Arkansas, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel Saturday morning. During the back half of the week, Simmons was not listed on the SEC availability report.
“Sources: Ole Miss QB Austin Simmons (ankle) is expected to be a game-time decision tonight against Arkansas in Oxford,” Thamel reported. “He’ll be monitored in warm-ups and a decision will be made. Back-up Trinidad Chambliss received an uptick in snaps this week.”
Simmons started the week listed as ‘Probable’ on Wednesday’s report. Simmons practiced on Friday, according to Rebel Grove’s Chuck Rounsaville, though it was a walk through practice with no contact. He took snaps with the second team for a second-straight day while Trinidad Chambliss took first team reps as he has all week.
Simmons exited the Kentucky game and Chambliss replaced him in the 4th quarter. A pair of early interceptions put Ole Miss in a bind against the Wildcats, but Simmons recovered to lead the Rebels to a 30-23 win.

Kiffin said for Ole Miss, the Rebels ultimately wanted to get Chambliss in there for schematical reasons. Simmons finished 13-of-24 for 235 yards with two interceptions. He rushed eight times for 44 yards and a touchdown.
This week, it marks the SEC home opener for Ole Miss vs. an Arkansas team that comes in with one of the nation’s top offenses through two weeks. Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green presents quite the challenge and the Rebels offense could use a scoring boost vs. the Razorbacks.
Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT on ESPN inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, which is being Striped Out for the matchup.
