Ben’s All-Day AMA: How long could Jordan Watkins, Ole Miss’ leading receiver, be out?

Looks like Ole Miss football is going to be without its leading receiver for a while.
Senior Jordan Watkins on Tuesday suffered a broken hand during practice. He had surgery in the following days, but, as reported today by Chuck Rounsaville on the Ole Miss Spirit message board, the incision has to heal to avoid infection. That timetable is 10 days, and a return thereafter will be almost entirely dependent on Watkins’ individual pain tolerance.
Watkins, through six weeks, is the team leader in both receptions (36) and yards (536). His two touchdowns are tied for second. He’s also the Rebels’ primary punt returner. Ole Miss (5-1, 2-1 SEC) is in its bye week and next returns to action October 21 at Auburn. The Rebels are fresh off back-to-back wins over LSU and Arkansas.
“Those two wins were huge,” Watkins said just Monday, when meeting with local media. He’s in his second Ole Miss season following a transfer from Louisville.

“Those are two tough teams. Arkansas was a huge win for us just because they always play us hard. We’ve had problems with them, including the beating they put on us last year.
“It’s huge just to go into the bye week with a win. Last year, we lost to LSU going into the bye week. It was kind of a regrouping period for us. This year, it’s more like we’ve just got to keep stacking and building.”
