Bracket Watch: Ole Miss still in the mix to host a regional after series loss to Tennessee

The weekend followed up by Tuesday’s Kids Day loss to Little Rock has the Ole Miss baseball vibes a little shaken but there is still reason to keep the faith.
A turnaround of a season for the Rebels (27-10, 9-6 Southeastern Conference) is happening, albeit the bar was low to clear but they are improved regardless. With that the postseason chatter is also still strong with the chance to get back into the NCAA Tournament for the first time since winning it all three years ago.
Wednesday brought about a new batch of projections from D1Baseball and Baseball America and No. 11 Ole Miss is firmly in the 64-team field as SEC play hit halfway last weekend.
Despite the series loss to Tennessee it did not ding the postseason outlook too bad with both outlets still including the Rebels among the 16 National Seeds and potentially hosting a regional for the first time since 2021.
Of the two, Baseball America had Ole Miss higher up the National Seed list at 11. The other three teams projected for an Oxford Regional are Western Kentucky (2 Seed), Wake Forest (3) and Missouri State (4). The Rebels are paired with the Clemson Regional and the No. 6 National Seed Tigers.

In D1Baseball’s projections Ole Miss is the No. 13 National Seed and paired with No. 4 National Seed Tennessee and the Knoxville Regional. Joining the Rebels in Oxford would be Southern Mississippi (2), Virginia Tech (3) and Missouri State (4).
Jonathan Wagner of On3 provided his latest projections on Wednesday, too, but did not have Ole Miss among the host national seeds. Instead, Wagner placed the Rebels as the 2 Seed in the Morgantown Regional with 16 National Seed and host West Virginia. Virginia Tech (3) and High Point (4) the other two teams in the regional.
“The Rebels could certainly host themselves, but fall out of the top 16 this week,” Wagner said.
Ole Miss heads to a scuffling South Carolina (21-17, 2-13) for a chance to have a bounce-back weekend. Currently the Rebels sit at 17 in the latest RPI heading into the series in Columbia. Thursday’s opening game is set for a 5:30 p.m. CT first pitch on SEC Newtork+
