Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss is getting rave reviews for his play Saturday against Arkansas. ESPN’s broadcast crew, including analyst Dusty Dvoracek and sideline reporter Taylor McGregor, both said Lane Kiffin’s staff sees some Baker Mayfield and Russell Wilson in Chambliss’ game.

Kiffin reiterated that in his postgame press conference.

“I’m not saying he’s Russell Wilson, don’t get me wrong, but there’s some similarities in that kind of in the it factor and how he moves and holds himself,” Kiffin said. “I’ve kind of said that since he’s gotten here.”

At the time of publishing, Chambliss was 21-of-27 for 357 yards and two passing touchdowns along with 10 carries for 34 yards and two touchdowns. Ole Miss is leading 38-28 at the start of the 4th quarter.

This summer, Chambliss arrived at Ole Miss from Ferris State, where he won a DII National Championship. He came with the point of betting on himself and working hard. It’s panning out early.

“Coming to Ole Miss, I feel like with any school you got to bet on yourself,” Chambliss said in fall camp. “You can’t back down from competition. When I came down for my visit here I felt like it was a great family atmosphere. Reminded me of my old school at Ferris State. The coaches are great with their team and great with their staff. Just coming here, just betting on myself, putting my best foot forward and being the best person and player that I can be for this team no matter what role that is.”

Discuss Chambliss and the Rebels on the Rebel Grove message board.

With 5:05 to go in the 2nd quarter, Chambliss exited the game against Arkansas with a hand injury. Chambliss made his first career start for the Rebels on Saturday against the Razorbacks and required glue to stop bleeding. He returned before halftime to lead the Rebels to a field goal drive to put Ole Miss up 31-28.

Mayfield is starting for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers while Wilson is trying to hold onto his starting job with the New York Giants. Both were terrific college quarterbacks and Chambliss is hoping to make a name for himself with the Rebels now.

Last season, Chambliss threw for 2,925 yards and 26 touchdowns and only six interceptions. He rushed for 1,019 yards and 25 touchdowns, too.
