In what may, or may not, be his final season wearing an Ole Miss uniform Hunter Elliott closed the books on 2025 by earning some hardware and making more program history.

The Rebels pitcher was named the 2025 Gold Glove award winner on Wednesday, marking the first time an Ole Miss pitcher has earned the honor. Elliott is only the third Ole Miss player to win a Gold Glove award in program history, joining former catchers Hayden Dunhurst (2021) and Stuart Turner (2013).

As a redshirt junior Elliott made his return to the mound after a nearly two year absence following Tommy John surgery in May of 2023. In 16 starts he went 10-3 with a 2.94 earned run average and 102 strikeouts, tying for 36th in the country this year.

Elliott became the fifth pitcher in Ole Miss history to finish with 10 wins and 100 strikeouts in a season. He was also the fourth pitcher in program history to have two 100-plus strikeout seasons. The ERA was the lowest by an Ole Miss pitcher since Elliott had an ERA of 2.70 during his freshman season in 2022.

Ole Miss made it back to the NCAA Tournament after two-year absence and since winning the National Championship in 2022. The Rebels also hosted a Regional for the first time since 2021.

Elliott was one of four pitchers to choose to return for another season in an effort to try and leave the program in a better place than where it was the past two years.

In what could be his final start of his Ole Miss career Elliott went six innings, allowing three runs – one earned – off eight hits and three walks in the Rebels win over Western Kentucky of the first elimination game of the Oxford Regional on May 31. He also struck out seven Hilltopper batters.

Then in the winner-take-all game of the Oxford Regional Final Elliott returned two days later to pitch the ninth inning against Murray State. He struck out one batter and did not allow a hit or a walk in the relief outing.

Elliott was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 20th round of last year’s MLB Draft but decided to return to Ole Miss. Elliott is expected to get drafted again but does have more eligibility and has the option to come back to Oxford for 2026, if he chooses.

This year’s MLB Draft will take place July 13 and 14 in Atlanta, the site of this year’s MLB All-Star game taking place on July 15.
