Isaac Humphrey is finishing out his one and only Ole Miss season with postseason baseball at Swayze Field.

He expects an insane atmosphere for the Oxford Regional and preparing best he can. The other participating teams are Georgia Tech, Western Kentucky and Murray State.

But Humphrey is like the rest of his Ole Miss teammates, including the majority of the returning veterans. Only the coaches have experienced an Oxford Regional in their careers. They used to be commonplace.

Friday will be a first for most everyone else, even Hunter Elliott, the co-ace of the 2022 national title team. Ole Miss won 10 of a possible 11 games as the last team named to the NCAA Tournament, all on the road.

Ole Miss lasted hosted in 2021.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” Humphrey said on Thursday. “We should have a really good crowd. I’ve heard a lot of stories about it. I know these coaches have had a lot of Regionals here, so they’ve obviously had a lot of experience. But none of us have, so it should be a new experience, but one that should be pretty exciting. It’s always good to be at home.”

Humphrey is a transfer outfielder from Louisville.

He’s been a linchpin for the Rebels at the plate and in the field. Ole Miss has utilized Humphrey as its primary center fielder, and he’s mostly hit in the heart of the lineup. Humphrey is batting .283 with 11 home runs and 53 RBI.

Ole Miss secured its hosting spot winning three games over Top 15 teams last week in the SEC Tournament. The Rebels are the No. 10 overall seed.

Humphrey was banged up in a win over Arkansas in a collision with fellow Ole Miss outfielder Ryan Moerman. Humphrey played on, but Moerman missed the rest of the tournament. Both are available for the weekend ahead.

“Should be good to go. Nothing hold me back, just a little sore,” Humphrey said. “Thankfully we’re both OK. It looks pretty rough on TV, but it’s just one of those weird baseball plays. We were able to miss major injuries. We’re up and moving and we’re able to play.”

Ole Miss (40-19) takes on 4-seed Murray State (39-13) Friday at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN+. Georgia Tech (40-17), the 2-seed, and Western Kentucky (46-12), the 3-seed, open the Regional at 3 p.m. CT.

“They’re a good team,” Humphrey said of Murray State. “They won almost 40 games, I think, so a really good team. We know they came here earlier in the year and took us to the wire. It’s going to be a battle no matter who we play. You can’t take them for granted.”
