Divison-III Pitcher of the Year Jason Gilman has committed to Ole Miss but will sign with the Red Sox, Rebel Grove comfirmed

The Ole Miss pitching staff was hit the hardest by the 2025 MLB Draft.

The Rebels are bringing back ace left-hander Hunter Elliott. However, they’re losing, among others, Mason Morris, Will McCausland and Grand Canyon transfer left-hander Grant Richardson.

Ole Miss on Monday seemed to make a significant move to help restock the cupboard, landing a commitment from Jason Gilman, last season’s Division-III National Pitcher of the Year. Unfortunately, he’s likely to sign with the Red Sox, as first-reported by Chase Parham.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Gilman pitched to a 2.08 ERA over 112 innings at Kean University, where he spent four years. He struck out 34 percent of the batters he faced. Gilman finished with 150 Ks and 32 walks in all, a seven percent walk rate.

Gilman was a 16th round draft selection of the Boston Red Sox.

“We’ve checked the boxes or filled the spots that had huge need for us,” Ole Miss hitting coach Mike Clement said of the Rebels’ transfer work so far, in a previous interview with Rebel Grove. “With that said, we’re probably not done. We’d probably take one more position player and one more arm. The nice thing about being where we’re at is we’d like best available. We feel we have a chance to get best available if he’s out there. I would guess we’re probably not done yet, but we’re really happy with where our roster currently sits. But you never know.”

McCausland and Richardson are both expected to sign

Richardson committed to Ole Miss in June. He suffered an injury that kept him out of the 2025 season. But as a sophomore in 2024 he worked 50.2 innings. Richardson allowed 26 runs (21 earned) on 42 hits with 70 strikeouts to 30 walks. He was in the bullpen for his first six appearances before moving to the front of the starting rotation. Richardson had the highest strikeout rate per nine innings in Grand Canyon history (12.43).

McCausland pitched to a 4.32 ERA in his first and likely only season at Ole Miss. He threw 41.2 innings and totaled 55 strikeouts to just 11 walks.
