In another bonus edition of The Flagship, Ben Garrett (OMSpirit/On3) is joined by Ben Mintz of Barstool Sports to preview Ole Miss-LSU.

Mintzy’s been to 21 of the last 24 games between the bitter SEC West rivals. So, of course he’ll be in Oxford Saturday, when the Rebels and Tigers kick off at 5 p.m. CT on ESPN.

The Rebels (3-1, 0-1 SEC) are coming off their first loss of the season — a 24-10 loss at Alabama. They dropped five spots, to No. 20, in the latest AP Top 25 polls. LSU (3-1, 2-0) is the nation’s No. 12-ranked team and most recently rallied to take down Arkansas.

Regardless, Mintzy’s going with the Rebels.

“Couple of things make me like Ole Miss this week,” Mintz said. “I was actually in Death Valley Saturday night. You think of LSU, you think of Tyrann Mathieu and Patrick Peterson and Tre White. Forever they were (defensive back university). They had all these elite DBs.

“Now, they’ve got Nicholls State transfers and Southeast Louisiana transfers getting huge run. You look at the Florida State second half and the Arkansas second, their secondary’s getting torched.”

LSU currently ranks No. 115 in the country in pass defense.

Meanwhile, Ole Miss, offensively, and prior to the egg it laid in Tuscaloosa, had been humming, featuring the SEC’s No. 1 scoring offense.

Mintz continued, “Obviously (Rebel wide receiver) Tre Harris is still a little banged up and (Zakhari) Franklin played his first game (at Alabama), but I think the Big If is obviously the Ole Miss offensive line, because that’s been a big problem, and last year (LSU linebacker) Harold Perkins just wrecked Ole Miss in the second half. So, huge if.

“But if you can get decent protection, Ole Miss receivers could run free on chunk plays. Ole Miss has a good chance of scoring some points, but it all comes down the o-line and blocking Perkins.”
