Ole Miss was in control of The Citadel entering the fourth quarter at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Rebels led 42-0 and the crowd was enjoying a beautiful day of football in Oxford.

What normally is set aside for a fan to kick a field goal became a day to remember for the young man and his friend beside him. It was an engagement proposal and she accepted.

Not only did the happy couple enjoy an unforgettable Ole Miss memory, sixth-year head coach Lane Kiffin got in on the action.

During the timeout, Kiffin made the moment extra special by personally congratulating the couple himself. He jogged onto the field from the Ole Miss sideline.

Kiffin is the second-winningest coach in Ole Miss history behind only Johnny Vaught. He’s also been at the dead center of the college coaching carousel. Kiffin has been linked to essentially every open job in the country, including notable SEC openings at Florida, Auburn and LSU.

His 2025-26 Rebels have won eight of their first nine games for the third time in three seasons. They’ll wrap the regular season against Florida and at in-state rival Mississippi State.

“Excited Georgia is boat-racing Mississippi State,” Kiffin said at halftime, in an interview with the Ole Miss Radio Network. “Oh, our game? We’re playing well.”

Kiffin is 47-14 since the 2021 season.

Ole Miss is third among all SEC schools in wins over that span. The Rebels are 33-3 in their last 36 home games and 19-1 in Oxford since the start of the 2023 season.

The Rebels (8-1, 5-1 SEC) are vying for a spot in the College Football Playoff and currently in prime position with the best season in program history in front of them.

Currently around the country, Ole Miss is joined by Georgia and Oregon as the only teams that are unbeaten against teams outside the AP Top 10.

How good are the Rebels at home? Ole Miss under Kiffin is averaging 40.7 points and 516.6 yards per game at home since the start of the 2023 season.

Saturday has been an absolute rout. Both sets of starters (offense and defense) played one third-quarter series before Kiffin mass-substituted with back-ups.

Austin Simmons replaced Trinidad Chambliss, an underdog Heisman Trophy contender. Chambliss is a Division II transfer from Ferris State. He finished the day 29 of 33 for 333 yards and three touchdowns. Chambliss replaced Simmons as Ole Miss’ starting quarterback after the first two games of the year. Simmons injured his ankle in a win at Kentucky and re-aggravated the injury in a win over Arkansas.

Chambliss has taken the opportunity and ran with it. Simmons, so far, is 6 for 10 for 74 yards and an interception midway through the fourth quarter against The Citadel.
