Ole Miss women's basketball has added Marta Ostojic to its roster

STAFF AND WIRE | Yolett McPhee-McCuin continued to add puzzle pieces for the upcoming Ole Miss women’s basketball season with the addition of Marta Ostojic.

McPhee-McCuin, the fifth-year Ole Miss women’s basketball head coach, made the announcement on Thursday. Summer workouts are already underway for the Rebels.

Ostojic hails from Croatia.

“I am incredibly pleased to have Marta join our basketball family,” McPhee-McCuin said. “Her versatility, competitiveness and experience playing internationally at a high level will have an immediate impact on our program.”

Ostojic is 6-foot-1 guard from Zagreb, Croatia.

She averaged 16.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game this past season while playing for Zagreb in the nation’s top league.

Ostojic’s impressive play earned her a spot on the list for the Croatian National team. She was also a key contributor for Croatia at the 2021 FIBA U18 Women’s European Challengers last summer, when she averaged 9.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists in five games.

“Not only will the community love Marta, but her signing and desire to come to Oxford is proof the University of Mississippi and Ole Miss women’s basketball are recognized world-wide as a brand of excellence,” McPhee-McCuin said.

Ostojic joins eight new Rebel additions for the 2022-23 campaign.

Others include Elauna Eaton, Rita Igbokwe, Brooke Moore, Tyia Singleton and Myah Taylor.

Taylor is a transfer from in-state rival Mississippi State and former Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year from Olive Branch. She was ranked as a five-star prospect out of high school in 2017.

“Coach Yo is a blessing for Ole Miss in women’s basketball in general, and I think that connection was there as well,” said Blake Jones, Taylor’s former high school head coach.

“It had to be a good family, a good head coach. For her to decide to stick it out at home, I think it’s going to be great.”

The newcomers will team up with key returners Angel Baker, Snudda Collins and Madison Scott from a team that had one of the nation’s top defenses last season.

The Rebels reached the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season, and star forward Shakira Austin was later the No. 3 selection in the 2022 WNBA Draft.
