Mike Bianco: 2023 Ole Miss baseball team is a 'great mix' of players

Ole Miss baseball held its media day for the 2023 season and head coach Mike Bianco held court, discussing last year’s success and fielding questions about what this year’s team will be like.
The Rebels are the reigning and defending national champions after finally winning the big one in Omaha last June at the Men’s College World Series.
Being the hunted is now the moniker Ole Miss will wear for the season after climbing the mountain. But who will the Rebels send out onto the field on opening day against Delaware on Feb. 18 is still a mystery.
Of course some names are known like shortstop Jacob Gonzalez, second baseman Peyton Chatagnier along with starting pitcher Hunter Elliott.

Who else is going to be on the field is a mystery and part of the strategy Bianco had media day on Jan. 27 and not the week of the season opener.
Over the next three weeks Ole Miss will hold practices and scrimmages to help Bianco and his staff formulate a starting lineup and opening weekend rotation.
“When I think of this 2023 version of Ole Miss baseball is it’s a great mix,” Bianco said. “A little different mix than last year. We were an older team. This team’s a great mix. Contrary to popular believe I don’t think we’re super young. We lost some really great players but we return some really great players.”
