Mississippi State transfer Debreasha Powe commits to Ole Miss WBB

Mississippi State transfer Debreasha Powe has announced her commitment to Ole Miss Women’s Basketball on Tuesday. The 6-1 junior averaged 8.4 points per game on 40 percent shooting from three-point range this season.
Powe was the “heart and soul” of the Bulldogs, but she’s switching sides of the rivalry and will suit up in Oxford for the Rebels now.
“Debreasha is like the mother of the team and has been the mother since her freshman year,” senior Jerkaila Jordan said in February. “It’s a role that she takes on 100%. She’s our voice when we’re down and we know that if someone is going to pick us up, it’s going to be Debreasha. We never see her with a bad attitude and she’s always smiling.”
“She’s the ultimate woman. It’s funny how life works when you roll up your sleeves and you work hard. As simple as that sounds, a lot of people don’t have that, but she does,” State coach Sam Purcell said of Powe. “She’s the dream of what I want my daughters to be. She’s a woman of faith. She’s praying for us before the game. She’s going to graduate here early and pursue a master’s so what does she not do well?”

The Rebels have been on a tear in the transfer portal, ranked by On3 as the No. 2 portal class on Monday afternoon. Their biggest get has been Ohio State transfer Cotie McMahon, a 6-0 junior who averaged 16.5 ppg and 4.7 rpg last season for the Buckeyes.
The Rebels lost seven minor contributors to the transfer portal and have immediately made a splash to increase the team’s stock. Alongside McMahon, head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin added Virginia’s Latasha Lattimore, UCF’s Kaitlin Peterson (who was one of the nation’s leading scorers), Wichita State’s Jayla Murray and Georgia Tech’s Tianna Thompson. Ole Miss has put themselves in position to once again contend for a top spot in the SEC next season.
