Ole Miss at Kentucky: Live updates, scores, game highlights

FINAL: No. 20 OLE MISS 30, KENTUCKY 23
Simmons is back out on the field tossing waiting for play to resume. Chambliss is the QB out with the offense.
Kentucky also went with a backup QB in redshirt freshman Cutter Boley but a sack on fourth down creates a turnover on downs.
Conservative play calling for a second possession for Ole Miss and this one ends with Simmons running and hurting his left ankle as a result. He has to be helped up with the trainers. Was not putting any weight on his left foot.
Kentucky moved the ball down field, and have had good success on the ground all day. Facing a 4th and 9 at the Rebels 21 the Wildcats opt to go for it and not take points but Calzada’s pass goes out the side of the endzone for a turnover on downs.
Ole Miss ball with the lead at their 20 and 7:50 remaining
END OF THE 3RD QUARTER: No. 20 Ole Miss 27, Kentucky 20
Ole Miss 27, Kentucky 20 2:20 3rd Quarter
Started the quarter trading punts and now the teams are trading touchdowns to end it. Simmons with a 7-yard keeper on 3rd and short puts the Rebels back in front.
The tight ends showed up that drive in the form of Trace Bruckler. Simmons connected with him twice that drive for 29 yards, the longest went for 23 yards to open the drive.
Ole Miss 20, Kentucky 20 5:38 3rd Quarter
The hold call on Kutas comes back to hurt the Rebels twice. First taking seven points off the board and then letting Kentucky have a chance to tie the game, which it does.
Nick Cull got burned and allowed a 44-yard pass from Calzada down to the Rebels 19. Two plays later McGowan scores on a 8-yard run. Cull was celebrating the run play before and didn’t get set.
Ole Miss 20, Kentucky 13 8:48 3rd Quarter
Carneiro connects on a 29-yard field goal drive. It should have been for an extra point after a Lacy touchdown run but Kutas was flagged for a hold, which was blatant, and negates the score.
There is going to be growing pains with Simmons as he gets his legs under him but the one thing that has to get fixed is his staring down his first target and not looking off.
Both teams trade punts to start the second half

HALFTIME: No. 20 Ole Miss 17, Kentucky 13
Ole Miss 17, Kentucky 13 1:05 2nd Quarter
Trading field goals now after Kiffin opts to take the points instead of a risky 4th and 4 play call. Since Townsend came in the line has been more better than bad and the run game is finding a slight rhythm. Lacy got a 24-yard run on the drive to get into field goal range.
Ole Miss 14, Kentucky 13 4:31 2nd Quarter
Kentucky ends the 14-0 run by the Rebels with a 31-yard field goal conversion. Wildcats are out of timeouts the final minutes of the half after having to burn one due to Ole Miss taking advantage of the new substitution rule.
Ole Miss 14, Kentucky 10 9:01 2nd Quarter
Back-to-back scoring drives for the Rebels and things have sorted themselves out for now. Simmons is looking a little more comfortable, though the play calls to get settled in have been risky to be sure. He had a 14-yard run on this drive and nearly scored.
A jumbo package that included Jam Brown and Echoles lined up in the backfield allowed Damien Taylor to score from a yard out.
Kentucky 10, Ole Miss 7 12:25 2nd Quarter
On 4th and short Simmons finds Wallace who breaks a tackle and goes 55 yards down to the 1 yard-line. Kewan Lacy cleaned things up for the touchdown run.
Delano Townsend entered the game for his Ole Miss debut and it leads to the first scoring drive of the day for the Rebels. He replaced Wilkins on that drive.
Kentucky 10, Ole Miss 0 14:17 2nd Quarter
The Rebels defense holds on its second short field and forces a 43-yard field goal attempt from Kentucky’s Jacob Kauwe and he converts.
END OF THE 1ST QUARTER: KENTUCKY 7, OLE MISS 0
Simmons is just struggling and tries to force one to Cayden Lee but its a little high and Ty Bryant has his second interception in as many drives.
Wildcats once again with a short field.
Kentucky 7, Ole Miss 0 1:55 1st Quarter
The Wildcats makes Austin Simmons and the Rebels pay for the turnover. Seth McGowan caps the short field possession with a nine-yard touchdown run. Feels like a crucial possession for the Ole Miss offense, mostly Simmons, to respond.

Weird and bad start for Ole Miss to this game. A bad snap gets Simmons in rush mode then throws it deep and its picked off by Kentucky’s Ty Bryant for 11 yards to the Rebels 31.
Simmons having trouble finding open receivers or placing throws where they can be caught on his second drive. An over throw to Wright and then a dropped pass by Deuce Alexander led to a 51 yard field goal attempt by Lucas Carneiro, which he doinked off the left upright.
Looks like the starting defensive line is going to be Suntarine Perkins, Harris, Will Echoles and Kam Franklin. Second-straight week for that group to start.
Ole Miss defense forces a three-and-out on its opening drive. Kentucky then shanks a punt for 28 yards. Rebels ball at their 36 with 11:26 left in the opening quarter.
The Rebels convert a first down but then are forced to punt from their 44 to open up the game. On the failed third down Simmons had time in the pocket but nobody was open.
Starting offensive line: Diego Pounds, Patrick Kutas, Brycen Sanders, P.J. Wilkins and Jayden Williams
Kentucky wins the coin toss and defers. Ole Miss and Austin Simmons will start with the ball.

The start of Southeastern Conference play is here with No. 20 Ole Miss at Kentucky for the first conference game of the season, and the only one in Week 2.
There is a bit of a revenge factor at play in Lexington for Lane Kiffin and the Rebels. The sixth-year head coach revealed the 20-17 loss in Oxford last year “sucked” and the long practices this week signal this is a game he has had circled for the last 343 days. There is a similar vibe and motivation to how Kiffin approached last year’s rematch with Georgia after the blowout loss in Athens two years ago.
Focusing back on this game at Kroger Field, Austin Simmons is making his first career SEC start. This is going to be the first full-game action for the Rebels quarterback after his lone touchdown-leading drive against Georgia last season.
Friday’s injury report showed two players will have to keep waiting to make their Ole Miss debut. Arkansas transfers Jaylon Braxton and Luke Hasz were listed as ‘OUT.’ There will be a final availability report released 90 minutes before kickoff on Saturday.
Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT on ABC. Keep this page open for live updates, scores and highlights once the game gets underway.
