Ole Miss baseball loses Brayden Jones with season-ending injury

Despite Brayden Jones topping out at 100 miles per hour, according to the in-stadium radar, No. 23 Ole Miss is going to be without a key piece of its bullpen the rest of the way.
Ole Miss announced on Thursday that Jones tore his UCL during his outing in the Rebels win over Austin Peay on Tuesday.
Jones worked 1.2 innings in relief, striking out four on 22 pitches thrown.
“Brayden Jones tore his UCL on Tuesday during his outing against Austin Peay,” a statement released by Ole Miss read. “He felt some pain in his elbow as he walked off the field after his outing and received an MRI on Wednesday morning where it was determined that surgery will be required. He will be out for the remainder of the season.”
In 18 appearances this year Jones had allowed 14 runs — 11 earned — off 24 hits while striking out 30 and issuing six walks in 18 innings pitched.

Despite the up and down results Jones was a regular go-to out of the bullpen on the weekend and sometimes midweek games. This leaves a big hole in the bullpen for Ole Miss, losing one of the consistent arms on Saturday or Sunday games.
Ole Miss is at No. 21 Oklahoma this weekend. Game one of the series is set for a first pitch of 6:30 p.m. CT on Friday.
