Ole Miss catcher Campbell Smithwick enters the transfer portal

The first consequential transfer portal entry for the Ole Miss baseball program this window has taken place. Catcher Campbell Smithwick entered the portal on Wednesday.
Smithwick is the first regular player, or player who saw frequent playing time this season, to enter this year’s transfer window.
He played in 40 games this past season, starting in 27 of them, playing a mix of catcher and designated hitter. In 110 at-bats Smithwick had a .282 batting average with 31 hits for 23 runs batted in and five home runs. He also hit five doubles and scored 20 runs, drawing 17 walks and struck out 33 times.
Everyday playing time for Smithwick this season was going to be hard outside of midweek starts with Austin Fawley transferring in from Kentucky and earning the weekend starting catcher role. Fawley is also a rising junior and expected to return to Ole Miss in 2026 for a second season.

Smithwick is the sixth Ole Miss player to hit the portal and fifth during the June transfer window. Infielder Tyler Acevedo declared for the portal at the end of the Fall before the season started.
Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco and his staff have not landed any transfer commitments, yet, but Ole Miss Spirit’s Ben Garrett is hinting at some activity this week. This goes with the information On3’s Pete Nakos provided on Wednesday regarding portal targets for the Rebels, including a catcher.
With Smithwick’s departure Fawley is currently the only other catcher currently on the roster.
