Ole Miss CB Chris Graves planned to enter NCAA Transfer Portal, changes course

UPDATE: Chris Graves has since told On3 that it was a “misunderstanding” and he plans to remain at Ole Miss. He planned to enter the transfer portal, even expecting power conference schools to land him, but instead backed off his plans.
Ole Miss cornerback Chris Graves plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, On3’s Pete Nakos reported on Wednesday. The former Miami transfer totaled 15 tackles this season.
He has two years of eligibility remaining. In two seasons with the Rebels, Graves has posted 28 tackles, three pass breakups and a forced fumble.
The news comes as Ole Miss is bringing in another former four-star to play in the secondary. Clemson transfer cornerback Tavoy Feagin committed to Ole Miss out of the NCAA transfer portal, he told On3’s Hayes Fawcett on Wednesday. He will have four years of eligibility remaining.
Ahead of last season, Graves built trust in his first year with the Rebels in 2023. The idea was to bring him along slowly then for him to emerge in 2024.

“I knew I had to come in and put my head down,” Graves said in fall camp last year. “I knew I was going to start on special teams. My goal was to get on special teams as quick as I can and show them they can trust me on defense as well.”
Graves ultimately played in all 13 games as a freshman. He made one start in place of starter Zamari Walton — against then-No. 1 Georgia.
Graves was the No. 156 overall prospect in On3’s Industry Ranking for the 2022 cycle. The 6-foot-1, 175 pounder was ranked as the No. 19 cornerback and was the 21st-ranked recruit from the Sunshine State.
