And it’s likely to cost Ole Miss dearly.
The Rebels had an 84 percent chance to make the playoffs with a win.
The loss dropped those odds to just four percent. Where does fifth-year Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin and the transfer-heavy Rebels go from here?
“Obviously very disappointing outcome today,” Kiffin said afterwards. “A game of a lot of missed opportunities. Go 0 for 3 in the Red Zone and get no points out of it. Missed field goal and get stopped twice on fourth downs. Lose the turnover margin in a tough place to play against a team that’s played really good when (Florida QB DJ Lagway) plays. Credit to him; he’s a really good player that made a lot of plays in the first half.
“Obviously a lot was at stake and we didn’t come through. A lot of missed opportunities.”
