Ole Miss football learns its SEC opponents through 2029 season

Ole Miss knows who its Southeastern Conference football opponents are through the 2029 season.

In a move only akin to Marvel announcing its movie lineup two to three years in advance the SEC office revealed the conference opponents for the next four years on Tuesday as part of the new nine-game schedule that takes affect for the 2026 season.

Another part of this new schedule format is each of the 16 teams having three permanent opponents during the next four seasons.

Chris Low reported the three opponents for all 16 teams on Monday, which were confirmed with Tuesday’s announcement by the SEC office.

Ole Miss will be play LSU, Mississippi State and Oklahoma which keeps the Egg Bowl rivalry intact. The Sooners, which the Rebels also play this season on October 25 in Norman, was a surprising addition as many expected Arkansas or Vanderbilt to be the third permanent fixture.

“They make decisions, they put together things and I don’t know,” Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin said on Monday. “We’ve got to win this week and perform really well and continue to just play whoever they schedule us to play and whatever time of day and night they schedule us to play. But it’s going to be highly exciting. Two of the, what, five most historic programs in college football you match us up with?”

The new format ensures each team will play every other SEC team every two years, home and away. They will make up the other six conference opponents each season.

Non-permanent home opponents for the 2026 season will be away opponents in 2028. Home opponents for the 2027 season will be away opponents for the 2029 season. Dates will be announced in December.
