Ole Miss freshman Corey Adams has reportedly passed away from gunshot wounds suffered Saturday night, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office told WREG. The New Orleans, La. native was found following a shooting outside a Cordova, Tenn. home.

The school confirmed the news Sunday morning.

In the social media post, Ole Miss wrote, “We’re heartbroken by the passing of Corey Adams. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who knew and love him.”

“We are devastated to learn that Corey Adams, a freshman on the team, passed away last night in Cordova, Tennessee,” the statement read. “While our program is trying to cope with this tragic loss, our thoughts are with his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. Out of respect for his family, we will not be commenting further at this time. We ask the Ole Miss community to keep Corey in their thoughts and respect the privacy of everyone involved.”

“SCSO responded to a scene on Fern Glade Cove in Cordova at 10:14 p.m,” according to Billy Gibbs of WREG. “Deputies say five people were injured in the shooting. When deputies arrived at the intersection of Forest Hill-Irene and Walnut Grove, they stopped a car, finding 18-year-old Corey Adams of New Orleans, Louisiana suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene.”

It’s an ongoing homicide investigation by Shelby County Sheriff’s Office detectives and information is still being gathered. Four others arrived at local hospitals by personal vehicles, according to the report.

Corey Adams, a 6-foot-5, 235 pound versatile defender, committed to Ole Miss last summer over notable offers from LSU, TCU and Southern Cal. Adams was the 609th overall recruit in the country and is the 57th-ranked edge prospect in the 2025 class. Adams was Louisiana’s No. 21 overall recruit, prepping at New Orleans powerhouse Edna Karr.

Adams was looking forward to working with defensive line coach Randall Joyner, defensive coordinator Pete Golding and head coach Lane Kiffin.

“I really like coach Joyner. He matches my energy. He’s real cool. I can relate to him (Golding). I can see that he knows about Louisiana,” Corey Adams said last summer. “He’s a real cool dude. I asked him about his life story, becoming the youngest NFL head coach and everything about his career up until now.”
