There is finally some movement in the transfer portal for the Ole Miss baseball team and Mike Bianco has landed his first commitment of the Summer.

Grand Canyon’s Grant Richardson announced his commitment to the Rebels on Thursday. The left-hander helps fill a major need within the Rebels bullpen. Pitching is the current primary target for Bianco and his staff in the portal.

Richardson, who visited Ole Miss last week, suffered an injury that kept him out of the 2025 season. During his sophomore season in 2024 he was a bullpen arm for his first six appearances before moving to the front of the starting rotation later in the season.

He worked 50.2 innings, allowing 26 runs — 21 earned — off 42 hits. He struck out 70 batters and issued 30 walks two years ago. Richardson started his final eight games of 2024 and had the highest stikeout rate per nine innings in program history at Grand Canyon (12.43).

Richardson was third in the WAC in strikeouts per nine, eighth in strikeouts (70), 12th in ERA (3.73) and 13th in opponent batting average (.245). He pitched the first six innings and was the pitcher of record in GCU’s first-ever NCAA Division I NCAA tournament win.

He is the first to come in via the portal after Ole Miss has lost six to it. Five departed this transfer window with catcher Campbell Smithwick the most recent, and consequential, loss for the program.

Redshirt sophomore Cole Ketchum and freshman Hudson Mattox are the only two pitchers to have hit the portal for Ole Miss, that still had eligibility, according to the On3 baseball transfer portal tracker.
