Ole Miss heads into the second week of November with a clear path to its first College Football Playoff in program history.

Tuesday saw the first CFP Top 25 rankings of the season released and the Rebels landed at No. 6. That would give them a first round CFP game in Oxford in late December if this bracket was the final one.

Ole Miss is the fourth SEC team in the rankings behind Texas A&M (3), Alabama (4) and Georgia (5). The Bulldogs are just ahead of the Rebels due to the close loss in Athens last month.

This year’s bracket is set up a little more simplistic with five highest conference champions getting in then the seven next highest ranked teams. Memphis is un-ranked but gets in the 12-team field due to currently slotted at the American Conference winner. Virginia is No. 14 but gets in as the currently slotted ACC winner.

The Cavaliers earned the No. 11 Seed and would play the Rebels in the first round based on this bracket. The winner would then move on to play the Aggies in the Quarterfinals in a New Year’s Six bowl game. That game would most likely be the Sugar Bowl if Texas A&M wins the SEC.

Ole Miss hosts The Citadel (4-5) on Saturday at Noon CT for its final non-conference game of the season. Then it turns its attention to the final two SEC games on the schedule against Florida on November 15 and at Mississippi State on November 28.
