Ole Miss is right in the mix for its first College Football Playoff bid and just has to control its own destiny, but nobody wants to talk about that this week.

With the Rebels in the midst of their second and final bye week of the season Lane Kiffin has taken over the conversation with his coaching future in Oxford up in the air and LSU and Florida working to lure him away.

Despite all that Tuesday brought the third edition of this season’s CFP Top 25 rankings and Ole Miss got a bump coming off its 34-24 win over Florida in Saturday’s regular season home finale. The Rebels moved up a spot to No. 6 also benefiting from Oklahoma’s win at Alabama this past weekend. With the way the bracket is set up they would host 11 Seed Miami who is the highest ranked ACC team and presumed conference champion based on Tuesday’s rankings.

The winner between Ole Miss and the Hurricanes would advance to play 3 Seed Texas A&M in what would possibly be the the Sugar Bowl for a second round matchup based on these rankings.

The Tide dropped down five spots to No. 10 and the Sooners moved up three spots to No. 8.

All that is left for the Rebels to do to secure a first round home playoff game is travel down to Starkville next week and beat Mississippi State in this season’s edition of the Egg Bowl. The Black Friday kickoff is set for 11 a.m. CT on ABC.
