Ole Miss assistant director of player personnel Marvin Nash is leaving for a Texas High School Football head coaching job. After just a few months in Oxford, he’s getting to pursue a dream of being a head coach and getting to coach his son while he’s at it.

According to DCTF’s Matt Stepp, Nash will take over as head coach at Chisholm Trail. Nash was hired in March from Rice this offseason where he was previously Executive Director of Recruiting and Player Personnel.

Nash was expected to add to Ole Miss’ ties to the fertile recruiting grounds in Texas, having worked in the state for two decades.

Prior to being hired at Rice, Nash spent 15 years coaching high school football in Texas, with his last position at San Marcos High School, where he served as the offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator. He was a part of a pair of Texas state champion teams at Denton Guyer (2012 & 2013) as well as three appearances in the state championship game and five state semifinals.

Talking with The Success Chronicles, the former Texas High School football coach made the jump to the college ranks and it’s been a tremendous ride for him. Nash is one of the more well-connected personnel staffers and continues to better himself daily.

“Growth is a constant, if you allow it to be,” Nash said. “The only way you can grow is if you don’t put limitations on yourself and allow others to put limitations on you. I told someone just a few minutes ago, three months ago, I was a high school coach and I loved what I was doing. I was in my moment. I was where my feet were and I was growing.

“Now, I’m in a dream job and I’m still growing. Every day, I learn something new. Every day, I find a new way to impact the world. If you allow growth to help you move, help you find the right position for yourself, then you’re great. That only starts if you are where your feet are.”

Nash graduated from Austin College in Sherman, Texas in 2003 with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (Psychology and Exercise & Sports Sciences) and was a two-time All-American Southwest Conference Selection and four-year letterman as a safety and linebacker for the Kangaroos. Nash has three children, Reagan, Damon, and Trey.
