Heroes and Highlights: Ole Miss’ Riley Maddox has been locked in over his last three starts

Ole Miss veteran RHP Riley Maddox was knocked around in his season opener.
He’s been virtually unhittable ever since.
Maddox has allowed just one run with 14 combined strikeouts over his last three outings, all wins, including 5.0 innings on two hits and a run in a series-clinching win over Jacksonville State on Saturday. He struck out four.
The Rebels improved to 13-1 on the season with a 12-4 win. They’ll go for their third straight series sweep on Sunday. First pitch has been moved up to noon due to the threat of inclement weather.
Ole Miss will throw RHP Mason Nichols (1-0, 5.73) against RHP Karson Bonaparte (1-1, 2.19 ERA).
“I’ve really used my fastball well,” Maddox said. “Staying composed and trusting my stuff. It’s been a good rhythm the last few weeks.”

However, only five of his 21 pitches went for strikes before an injury forced an early exit. He issued three walks.
“A couple soft base hits,” head coach Mike Bianco said. Bianco is in his 25th season as Ole Miss head coach. “It’s part of the game and it happens.
“Really after that he was lights out. One of things I said to the team was when you watch Riley, and (Walker) Hooks at the end, when you throw multiple pitches in the strike zone and you flood the strike zone, it makes it a lot easier out there.
Both those guys made it look pretty easy.”
