Simmons gets his third touchdown of the night, this one for 26 yards to Harrison Wallace. He is now up to 341 passing yards. Wallace has 5 catches for 130 yards and the touchdown.

On third and short at the Pantehrs five yard-line Simmons got caught between decisions and nearly fumbled the ball away but landed back on it. Caneiro converted a 33-yard field goal.
Panthers went for it on fourth down and failed to convert, their first failed attempt in three tries, and Rebels defense gets a turnover on downs.

Caleb Odom with his first career touchdown as a Rebel. This one a nine-yard pass from Simmons. The Rebels have scored 14 points in the first four and a half minutes of the half.
Zxavian Harris with a ‘look what I found’ interception as Veilleux threw it right to him. Harris bobbled it then ran it to the Panthers 20.

Lacy is having a good debut as a Rebel tonight. His third 42-yard touchdown run of the night caps the opening of the second half. He’s up 12 carries for 78 yards and the three touchdowns.

Lacy looks like he might be the short-yardage back the Rebels have sorely lacked in recent years. He picks up his second touchdown of the night on a two-yard carry. Wright continues to have a good night with four catches for 78 yards.

Georgia State converts its first third down of the game and it goes for a 43 yard touchdown pass by Christian Vielleux to Javon Robinson and the Panthers are right back in this game.

The fifth possession for the Rebels offense was a heavy dose of Kewan Lacy. He had five carries, including a 1-yard touchdown run for his first of his Ole Miss career. The run included Lacy shrugging off a Panthers defender and then running to the left for the score.
There was also some trickeration with Wright lined up and took the direct snap on a 4th and short to convert inside the Panthers 10.

Lucas Carneiro converted 42-yard field goal to cap the drive.
Scoring drive for the Rebels on their fourth possession on offense. Simmons with a beautiful pass to Wallace on the drive but it stalls just outside the redzone. Offensive line is an issue so far tonight, especially on the right side where Kutas is.
End of the 1st Quarter: No. 21 Ole Miss 7, Georgia State 0
Simmons throws his second interception and this one is one him. He never looked off Wright the whole play and didn’t see Jordan Huff camped out in the middle of the end zone. Bad one on Simmons there, he had Lacy out to his left in the flat but never looked off Wright.
Ole Miss defense holds and forces a 31-yard field goal try by the Panthers, which is doinked off the left upright by Liam Rickman.
Simmons second drive ends with his first pick as he was hit when he threw. Ball got no air and ends up in the arms of Panthers D-Icey Hopkins who returned it to the Rebels 25

Princewill Umanmielen, Da’Shawn Womack and Jam Brown saw action on the line for the second Panthers possession, which ended in a three and out. Franklin was lined at DT for third down, which means Golding is rotating some things around.

Ole Miss needed three plays, all passes, to score its first touchdown of the season. Simmons looked very comfortable and hit Da’Quan Wright twice, including the 38-yard touchdown strike down the middle.

Georgia State won the toss and will receive the ball. Rebels defense up first.
There was a moment of silence for Corey Adams before the national anthem.
Jayden Williams looks to be full go, as is tight end Caleb Odom. Both missed a good chunk of camp with injuries but looks like they will try things out tonight.

The 2025 college football season begins in Oxford with No. 21 Ole Miss hosting Georgia State. This is an important game for the Rebels.
With a non-conference opponent these games usually feel like a warm-up for the real action that is the Southeastern Conference schedule but Saturday’s game with the Panthers is serving a bigger purpose.
There were plenty of unknowns and question marks about Ole Miss throughout Fall camp. Saturday’s game day reveal of the team’s first depth chart, some of those questions were answered.
Austin Simmons kicks off his era as the Rebels next starting quarterback with a lot of new faces on offense and a re-tooled running backs room. The defense is completely new minus a couple returners with experience.
